Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau

In collaboration with a hotel co-op including Oasis Hotel and Convention Center, DoubleTree, and University Plaza Hotel, the Springfield CVB wanted to capture the attention of prospective convention planners to the Springfield area. The solution was a two-part, nostalgia-driven direct mail campaign built around tactile, retro design.

The initial mailer delivered a fully immersive experience—pairing a guided audio cassette narrated by Springfield’s own Jeff Houghton with a custom-illustrated fold-out map highlighting iconic landmarks, attractions, and activities. Bold illustration, playful typography, and physical interaction turned the piece into a true conversation starter.

Following the success of the first drop, a second mailer reinforced Springfield’s differentiators through a radio show–style cassette hosted by Jeff Houghton and Sarah Jenkins, retro hotel keychains representing each property, and a vintage-inspired postcard using illustrations from the original campaign. Together, the mailers blended storytelling, illustration, and nostalgia to keep Springfield top of mind as a memorable and compelling event destination.
